Tokyo music and concert-video post house L’Espace Vision installed a Quantel iQ resolution-coexistent media platform at the centre of its HD editing operation. The company also intended to use the system as a route into digital cinema work.
The iQ could handle multiple resolutions, frame rates and formats simultaneously, including material from the Panasonic Varicam. L’Espace Vision highlighted native 720p colour correction alongside simultaneous 1080p work. Its configuration provided real-time 2K playback, three hours of 2K 10-bit storage or seven hours of 1080 10-bit HD within a 3 TB capacity.
Nagoya Broadcasting Network separately ordered an iQ with five hours of HD storage for installation in April 2003. The broadcaster planned to centre its HD production workflow on the system ahead of terrestrial HD transmissions later that year.
Quantel’s Qscribe caption tool was another factor in the selection. Japanese programmes could contain hundreds of captions, and the iQ combined offline caption preparation with its real-time broadcast workflow.
