IRT selected DVC’s new ClipRecorder HDx2 because it is based on an open platform and stores common HD formats directly in the NTFS file system.
ClipRecorder HDx2 accepts, processes and plays two uncompressed HD data streams simultaneously. To sustain a data rate above 500 MB per second, DVC integrated a four-channel fibre array and multi-PCI-X architecture. The server uses Drastic’s QuickClip server software and MediaReactor file conversion and provides extended network functions.
Its open architecture also allows ClipRecorder HDx2 to be expanded into an HD storage-area network. IRT uses the server for comparative studies of uncompressed standards and in combination with MPEG encoders and other data-reduction processes to identify efficient data rates for economical, high-quality picture services. The institute also analyses upconversion of standard-definition pictures for higher-quality services.
