The new version is aimed strongly at the games market, among other things – not only through the integration of Discreet’s Character Studio, but also through the Mobile Gaming Development Tools and Normal Mapping: The latter is intended to enable developers to design low-poly models with high-resolution maps in as much detail as possible. The Skin Wrap Deformer is intended to simplify the workflow by enabling the

simple attachment of clothing and props to existing character

animations and rigs. In addition, the

Mental Ray integration was improved: according to

Discreet, version 3.3 not only works faster and more memory-efficiently, but achieves

more realistic results through Subsurface Scattering

with translucent materials such as skin or plastic. The new

version is expected to come onto the US market in the fall for around 3,500 dollars

; localized versions will follow at the end of the year at the earliest.

Discreet charges 800 dollars for the upgrade from 3ds max 6.
