The device improves the pan, zoom and rotation operations that account for roughly half of mouse activity in a 3D application. 3Dconnexion says SpacePilot can therefore increase productivity in CAD and DCC software.
Its features include 21 SpeedKeys, with an LCD showing the current assignments. Dynamic, extensible mappings provide access to an almost unlimited number of functions. Users can program the keys for each application and reduce trips to the keyboard. BeginnerKeys adjust controller response, while FitKey centres a 3D model to micrometre precision and automatically scales it to the screen. ViewKeys call up specific model views directly, and dedicated ModifierKeys provide access to important keyboard control keys.
