There are now several manufacturers of so-called Full Dome Theaters. These special forms of cinema are mobile units that have a hemispherical image or projection surface inside. Some project the entire image with a single projector from the centre; other systems use several projectors.
At Siggraph, a model can now be seen that instead works with 125 displays assembled into a hemisphere. This technology is already used in planetariums and special cinemas. With it, it is possible to project finished films as well as live graphics. For example, an interactive starry sky could be depicted on the hemisphere, which the viewer can control himself and move around in.
