The provider of 3D input devices 3Dconnexion is offering its Windows customers with USB devices an upgrade program for the period up to December 28, 2005: As part of this program, users of SpaceBall, SpaceMouse or CadMan can purchase the SpacePilot 3D controller introduced in the spring with savings of up to 250 euros. The upgrade costs for users of SpaceBall 5000, SpaceMouse Plus and SpaceMouse Plus XT are 299 euros. For users of CadMan, SpaceMouse Classic and older versions of SpaceBall, the upgrade costs amount to 349 euros.

Excluded from the upgrade offer are the products SpaceTraveler, SpaceNavigator and Cyberpuck, as well as input devices that customers purchased on special terms in the area of research & teaching. The offer is available from 3Dconnexion’s authorized dealers and distributors.

With the SpacePilot, 3Dconnexion brought to market in April of this year what, according to company information, is the first “intelligent” 3D controller, which further simplifies workflows in the CAD and DDC market. At the heart of the 3D input device are the 21 Speedkeys, which can be assigned dynamically. The SpacePilot recognizes the active application and provides the user with correspondingly preset functions that are dynamically adjusted when the application or mode is changed and displayed on the device’s LC display. With the FitKey, the model can be centered and scaled to screen size at the touch of a button; the ViewKeys call up the standard views of the model, and Modifier Keys such as Ctrl and Alt eliminate the need to reach for the keyboard.

Compared with the predecessor models, the SpacePilot’s improved technology also offers improved pan, zoom and rotation functions. With minimal effort, models and scenes in modern professional 3D application areas can be precisely controlled with the fingertips, 3Dconnexion advertises. The SpacePilot is connected to the computer via the USB interface and supports more than 100 CAD and DCC applications.
