Realviz planned to introduce its Movimento motion-capture system at SIGGRAPH in Boston from 30 July to 3 August 2006. The application was designed to capture facial, hand, arm and full-body data without requiring a specialised motion-capture studio.
Movimento is based on Realviz’s SMART technology, short for Scalable Matching Architecture for Tracking, and its 3D tracking engine. It is available as standalone software or with a four-camera capture system.
Realviz says the software captures the motion of non-rigid objects from two or more image sequences. It can combine matchmoving, or 3D camera tracking, with motion capture for work such as rapid on-set capture. The company also claims automatic reconstruction of 3D meshes from tracking data.
At least two cameras are required, either fixed or moving, with arbitrary frame rates and resolutions supported. Movimento exports motion-capture data to 3ds Max, Maya, Softimage XSI and MotionBuilder.
The software runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. The software-only version was priced at €16,000, while a complete system with four cameras, a PC, capture cards and cables started at €37,000.
