New Intuos3 Tablet for Widescreen Notebooks

Wacom responds to the widescreen-display trend with a compact professional pen tablet.

Wacom is offering a new Intuos3-series pen tablet. The Intuos3 A6 Wide is intended particularly for users of widescreen notebooks who work professionally or at an advanced level in digital imaging and photography.

Its compact active area measures 4 x 6 inches, or 98.4 x 157.5 mm, with a 16:10 aspect ratio suited to modern widescreen displays. Corel Painter Essentials 3 is included.

The Intuos3 A6 Wide provides the same functions as other Intuos3 tablets. Eight freely programmable ExpressKeys and two Touch Strips sit on either side of the active area for operation with the free hand. The ExpressKeys can invoke shortcuts, complete key combinations or custom pop-up menus. The Touch Strips support finger-controlled zooming, document scrolling and user-defined functions.

Resolution is 5,080 dpi. The tip and eraser of the Intuos3 Grip Pen recognise 1,024 pressure levels, while the tablet detects pen tilt up to 60 degrees. These capabilities support natural input, fine colour gradations and masking effects. Each input device also carries a Tool ID, allowing the tablet to load application-specific settings automatically where supported by the software.

The Intuos3 A6 Wide costs around €230 excluding VAT. Wacom also offers the Intuos3 A5 Wide with a 6 x 11-inch active area for €370 and the Intuos A3 Wide at 12 x 19 inches for €680. The USB tablets support Windows 2000, XP and XP 64-bit or later, and Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later.
