The “Cinema of the Future” event (5.10.2006, 4 p.m. at the Metropolis, Dammtorstr. 30a, Hamburg) is intended to illuminate the future of cinema in the digital age: At the lectures initiated by the Bitfilm Festival, three speakers present important technical developments and illustrate their influence using vivid examples.
Alléne Hébert from Barcelona is an expert on digital cinema and prepared a study on the subject for the EU that recently appeared as a book under the title “Digital Cinema Perspectives”. She explains how digital technology is used throughout the entire value chain “from the scene to the screen”.
Volker Helzle from the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg presents the results of the “Artificial Actors” research project, which is about generating the most lifelike facial animations possible by computer – and making real actors superfluous?
Professor Steffi Beckhaus from the University of Hamburg (Interactive Media/Virtual Environments) gives an overview of various forms of immersive experience cinema working with all the senses: from the “Sensorama” of the 1950s to current virtual-reality technology.
All lectures will be held in English. Admission is free.
