Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg is combining the compulsory elective subject “Digital Producing” and the postgraduate program “Film & TV Design” in the 2007/08 academic year into the new “Interactive Media” degree program. It can be studied as a four-year undergraduate and project study program in the field of media production or media conception, respectively, or – for applicants who bring a qualification in producing, conception or design – as a two-year postgraduate program. Together, the students develop prototypes for innovative digital media formats in a “Content Lab.” The application deadline for the 2007/2008 academic year runs until February 15, 2007.

From the academy’s point of view, the digitization of the media is leading to the technical and content convergence of previously independent media platforms, for example cinema, TV, PC, game consoles or mobile devices. This development and the improvement of technical standards is increasingly affecting the film and TV industry. The affected industry segments of print, music, film and TV are therefore forced to develop new attractive formats and expand their business models. The media industry consequently needs designers, concept developers and producers who can develop and produce material across media.

In the Filmakademie’s assessment, this presupposes that they are familiar both with the linear fictional and non-fictional formats and with the interactive – whether modular or object-oriented – forms of application on the market. They must be familiar with the respective dramaturgical laws as well as understand the format-specific production methods and the business models of the different platforms. Creative, practically trained professionals for film, TV and Interactive Media are sought. They are precisely what the new degree program is intended to produce.

The instructors heading the new Interactive Media degree program are Inga von Staden and Michael Rueger. The Media Design specialization is supervised by Prof. Manfred Becker and Prof. Dr. Heike Sperling. The degree program coordinator and contact person is Jürgen Klozenbücher (juergen.klozenbuecher@filmakademie.de).
