The Bitfilm Festival of Digital Film has launched its 8th International Competition. Until June 15, 2007, creative people can submit their entries for six categories:
– T-Com 3D Space Award (computer-generated 3D animations)
– FX Mix Award (digital films using mixed techniques)
– MTV Flash Award (animations produced with Flash)
– Machinima Award (films shot live in computer games)
– Micromovie Award (short clips for mobile devices)
– Grand Prix TV Digital (full-length 3D/FX cinema films)
All selected films will be shown online. Internet users can recommend their favourite films to their friends and thus trigger a “virus effect”. The worldwide Internet community then decides on the presentation of the Bitfilm Awards in a vote described by the organisers as a “democratic, viral election”.
The total prize money is 10,000 euros. The Internet festival will be introduced with a live event in Hamburg from August 9 to 11. In addition to open-air screenings of the selected films, a conference on Digital Cinema and Mobile Multimedia is also to take place there. The nominated films will be announced on 19./20.September at the Bitfilm Festival Barcelona. The award ceremony will once again take place in Hamburg on October 15, 2007.
