Maxon has released Cinema 4D Engineering Edition Release 10. The visualisation software is designed to let engineers without graphics experience produce high-quality images from CAD data quickly. New features include improved scene management, an interactive help system and tighter integration of the preview renderer.
According to Maxon, the interface has been optimised for CAD visualisation. Libraries of materials and environmental scenes assist with creating finished images. Alongside photorealistic output, the Engineering Edition can generate sketch-style renderings with adjustable precision. Photorealistic and sketch rendering can also be combined.
Maxon says the Cinema 4D render engine and included environment scenes are optimised for performance. A TCP/IP network renderer for as many as three computers is included to accelerate large animation jobs without requiring administrative changes to an existing network.
The revised scene manager is intended to improve navigation and object searches in complex projects. An interactive HTML help system explains individual functions inside the application without additional software. The more tightly integrated preview renderer displays final-image features including reflections and transparency and can now calculate selected image regions. Maxon also lists improved OpenGL display and expanded animation functions among hundreds of other changes.
Cinema 4D Release 10 Engineering Edition imports Inventor, MilkShape 3D, Minolta Vivid 700, MOL Molecular Database, Pro/Engineer, Protein Data Bank, Rhino 3D and OpenNURBS, STL, Wavefront OBJ, XGL, DWG, IGES, Solid Edge, SolidWorks, ACIS SAT, Granite g-plugs, Parasolid, STEP and VDA-FS data. An optional component exports Cinema 4D polygon data to these CAD formats.
