Based on the current Maya version 8.5, Autodesk is now offering a Personal Learning Edition (PLE) for non-commercial use.
Maya 8.5 PLE contains most of the features of the full version, including the complete dynamics and particle systems.
The PLE is a 32-bit application and requires either Windows XP Professional SP2 or Mac OS X 10.4.8 (Intel and Power PC) or higher. It supports only one CPU and, in addition to several other functional limitations, adds a watermark to the rendering results. The PLE is available in English or Japanese localization.
There is no support. However, users can register on Autodesk’s Area website and make use of the resources available there.
