The 8th International Bitfilm Festival for Digital Film is extending the submission deadline for competition entries by two weeks to July 1, 2007. 3D computer animations, films using digital mixed techniques, Flash animated films, machinima movies created with games and short clips produced for mobile phones can be submitted in six categories. From August 9, the nominated films will be posted on the Internet for worldwide voting.
The Internet festival will be introduced with a three-day live event in Bitfilm’s home city of Hamburg: Selected films will be shown free of charge on the big screen at Spielbudenplatz in the heart of St. Pauli. The Bitfilm opening party with VJs and DJs will take place at the Mandarin-Kasino on the Reeperbahn.
The awards ceremony takes place on September 20, though in Barcelona. “Our festival is international; the focus is on worldwide Internet voting. But the charm of real places is also very important to us”, Bitfilm founder Aaron Koenig explains this unusual constellation. “In future, we always want to begin in Hamburg and present the awards in an interesting partner city. Barcelona is one of our favorite cities with a very exciting film, design and music scene.” For 2008, the organizers are considering presenting their awards in Shanghai or Tel Aviv.
