Around 22 percent growth in console games

Revenue from console software rose by more than one fifth to around 203 million euros in the first half of 2007. media control announces this.

In 2006, it was around 167 million euros. In the same period, the number of units increased to around 5.9 million games (1st half of 2006: 4.9 million).

Nintendo DS increases market share to nearly 30 percent

Demand for software for Nintendo DS was very pronounced: Around 1.6 million games were sold in the past six months. In the same period of the previous year, it was around 490,000 units. In the six-month balance for 2007, the handheld expanded its share of the total sales volume of all games to more than 27 percent (1st half of 2006: 9 percent).

Among the three next-generation consoles, Xbox 360 leads. Games for the platform that has been available the longest currently have a 6 percent share of total volume. Titles for Nintendo Wii reached 5 percent. PlayStation 3 software has achieved a 3 percent market share since its launch at the end of March.

PlayStation 2 (PS2) remains market leader. 2.35 million units sold (minus 3.2 percent) are the best value of all consoles. This means that around 39 percent of all software sales – around 10 percent less than last year – were attributable to the stationary console.

Nintendo determines the sales charts

Nintendo dominates the Top 10 best-selling games across all consoles. Nine of the ten most popular games are played on DS or Wii. Right at the front is “Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training”. The thinking game surpassed the PS2 top seller “Final Fantasy 12”. In sixth place, the only offering for one of the three next-generation consoles, “Wii Play”.

PC games: Revenue increase despite volume decline

Total revenue from PC games increased from 119 to 125 million euros, even though volume fell by 2.9 percent compared with the previous year at the same time. Most in demand were “World Of Warcraft – Burning Crusade” ahead of “World Of Warcraft” and “The Sims 2 Seasons”.
