12.51 Million TV Viewers Watch International Match

An average of 12.51 million viewers aged three and above watched the football international match between England and Germany on Wednesday.

The prestige duel achieved a respectable market share of 42.6 percent, as media control reports. The ARD broadcast from London’s Wembley Stadium easily won the daily ranking.

The 2:1 victory of national coach Joachim Löw’s team over the eternal rival achieved the second-highest audience rating of all international matches in 2007. Only for the match between the Czech Republic and Germany on March 24 were more people sitting in front of the screens, with 13.21 million viewers.

At 18:00, ARD showed the match of the German women’s national team against Switzerland. An average of 2.48 million interested people tuned in to the 7:0 victory in the European Championship qualifying match. The market share was 13.5 percent. No other match of the reigning world and European champion had more television viewers this year.
