The story is based on the New York Times Magazine article “The Girls Next Door” by Peter Landesman. When 13-year-old Adriana (Paulina Gaitan) is abducted by a human-trafficking ring in Mexico City, her 17-year-old brother Jorge (Cesar Ramos) sets out on the dramatic search for her. In this desperate situation, Adriana meets the young Polish woman Veronica (Alicja Bachleda), who turns out to be her only protector and friend.
Jorge encounters Ray (Kevin Kline), a Texan insurance policeman, while searching for his sister, and he develops more and more into an ally and helper in the search for Adriana. In the process, the two get on the trail of the mechanisms of modern human trafficking and must play a game that threatens to become existential.
Director Marco Kreuzpaintner and the producers of Claussen+Wöbke+Putz counted on the proven quality of ARRI. Following the Avid edit, post-production took place at ARRI Film & TV, where the visual effects and the elaborate digital intermediate process were also carried out. The focus here was on digital light determination. Color grading was performed by ARRI colorist Rainer Schmidt in the Lustre Master Suite – on a large screen with a digital 2K projector and thus under cinema conditions – ideal conditions for cinematographer Daniel Gottschalk to carry out the complex process of digital color manipulation optimally. Film recording via the ARRILASER as well as the complex Dolby SR*D mastering and the final laboratory work likewise took place at ARRI Film & TV.
