Living Cloud Wins Virtual Architecture Award

Tanja Meyle’s Living Cloud wins the public prize in the first Second Life Annual Architecture and Design Competition.

Berlin artist Tanja Meyle won the public prize in the first Annual Architecture and Design Competition for projects created in Second Life. Her Living Cloud surrounded an avatar with a cloud-like private zone that remained accessible to other users.

Competition initiator and architect Stephan Doesinger said the work addressed the theme Goodbye Privacy by exploring private space and voluntary exhibitionism online.

Living Cloud received almost 2,700 votes during an online poll lasting six weeks. It competed against three other nominated projects from Vienna, San Francisco and Melbourne. An international jury had selected the four finalists from 126 submissions shown at the Ars Electronica media-art festival in Linz.

The award was presented at the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen and carried a €1,000 prize.
