The mafia thriller “American Gangster” by Ridley Scott immediately conquered the topposition of the German cinema charts. Oscar winner Denzel Washington plays the legendary mafia boss Frank Lucas, who rose to become the first African American head of the New York mafia.

Behind it, “The Legend of Beowulf”, also newly released in cinemas, occupies second place. Stars such as Anthony Hopkins, Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich appear in the technically elaborate monumental film adaptation of the Anglo-Saxon heroic epic Beowulf.

The previous leader, the romantic comedy “After 7 Days – Unhoneymooned” with Ben Stiller, only managed third place.

Behind it, Michael Bully Herbig placed fourth with his 3D satire “Lissy and the Wild Emperor” (previous week: second place), ahead of the animated film “Ratatouille” in fifth place (previous week: third). The cinema visitor numbers were determined from November 15 to 18 in 339 auditoriums of Cinemaxx cinemas with a total of around 89,000 seats.
