Despite the railway strike, not only did the audience find its way to Lünen, most of the announced guests also personally presented their work at the Film Festival. These included jazz legend Billy Cobham, Tanja Schleiff, Anke Sevenich, Maren Eggert and a large part of the team from Dominik Graf’s “The Vow”, Marc Meyer, director of the just-launched “We Say You! Darling”, with almost all the cast of the film, including the leading actors Samuel Finzi and Nina Kronjäger, Waldemar Kobus, who appeared in no fewer than four different films in the programme, Peter Timm, Martin Todsharow, Katharina Wackernagel and many others.
At the award ceremony on November 18, the announcement by the sponsors of the Film Music Award, Andrea and Jürgen Skok, that they would continue to provide the award in the future met with particular applause. The first winner of the Film Music Award was Thomas Mehlhorn for the music to “Blind Flight” by Ben von Grafenstein.
“At one end of the cinema actors and crew from ‘The Vow’ in the crammed-full auditorium, at the other end Billy Cobham, who drums a spontaneous solo in the cinema before the presentation of Mika Kaurismäki’s new film ‘Sonic Mirror’, that is Lünen,” festival director Michael Wiedemann sums up with satisfaction. “What particularly pleases us,” adds his deputy Kathrin Bessert, “is that so many filmmakers obviously feel at home in Lünen, praise the Lünen audience and the family atmosphere in which they can easily make contacts.”
On February 11, 2008, as part of the Berlinale, the Film Festival will show the award-winning films “Jacob’s Brother”, a debut film by the young director Daniel Walta, as well as the short-film winners “On the Line” by Reto Caffi and “15 Minutes of Truth” by Nico Zingelmann at the cinema in the Hackesche Höfe.
The 19th Lünen Film Festival will take place from November 13 to 16, 2008.
