Avid Technology announced the appointment of Gary Greenfield as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective immediately. Greenfield thus succeeds Nancy Hawthorne, who had worked as interim CEO since August 1 and will in future be represented on the company’s board as Lead Director.

“As Avid evolves and helps its customers master new challenges in the dynamic digital-media market, we looked for an executive who has direct experience helping complex, multidimensional and publicly traded companies achieve their goals,” Hawthorne explains. “Gary Greenfield is ideally suited to lead the company into a new era of growth.”

“Avid has a far-reaching 20-year tradition as a lively and innovative technology pioneer whose product families represent the latest state of technology for the digital-media and entertainment industry – this made it so interesting for me to join this company. I am convinced that Avid can become a real ‚Media Powerhouse’ and look forward to this challenge,” Greenfield explains.

Greenfield was CEO of GXS, a leading global provider of integration, synchronization and collaboration solutions in the business-to-business sector, until 2003. Since December 2003, he had been an active partner at Francisco Partners, a leading technology-oriented investment company.

Previously, as CEO at Peregrine Systems, he had already led the restructuring of the business and had served as President and CEO of Merant and CEO of Intersolv until that company’s merger with Micro Focus to form Merant. He has extensive experience with company expansion through organic growth and acquisitions, with leading development, marketing and operations areas, and with serving the most varied customer groups, from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies.
