Auer was most recently Head of Channel Marketing at pay-TV channel Arena. Earlier positions in his career included Head of Marketing at Kabel 1 from 2000 to 2006 and Marketing Director at Deutsches Sportfernsehen from 1996 to 2000.

The newly created Head of Programming position is being taken by Marion Rathmann, 38. Since Tele 5’s relaunch in 2002, Rathmann had been responsible for scheduling and youth protection; she took over programme planning in 2005. Rathmann began her media career at Tele 5 in 1992, later worked at DSF, moved to TM3 as a programme planner in 1995 and joined Premiere’s programming department as an assistant at the start of 2002.

Tele 5 Managing Director Kai Blasberg said: “With the new organisational structure, our channel is well positioned in the key areas of marketing, sales, communications and programming. Building on these pillars, we will drive the targeted positioning of Tele 5 as Germany’s leading free-to-air movie channel and develop our ‘WE LOVE CINEMA’ attitude further into a sustainable brand strategy. With Thomas Auer and Marion Rathmann, we have gained experienced colleagues for the tasks ahead.”

Tele 5’s communications department is also being reorganised. Jochem Becker, 49, Head of Communications at the movie channel since April 2006, is additionally taking over the internet and viewer-relations departments, which were previously located elsewhere in the company.
