Bunkspeed Inc. announced today that Chrysler Group will use the company’s 3D rendering applications to create professional, high-quality marketing materials from CAD data. Among other benefits, Chrysler expects significantly lower advertising-production costs.
Bunkspeed software allows Chrysler’s Engineering Graphic Illustration Group (EGIG) to generate attractive imagery from 3D models created in the automaker’s CAD applications. Different colors, surface treatments, and lighting can be applied to produce realistic images ready for immediate use in print and online advertising campaigns.
Producing imagery in-house marks a clear departure from the traditional process, in which creative agencies photographed real vehicles against real landscapes and charged per image. Bunkspeed software requires no specialist photography or professional image-editing expertise and can be learned in around 15 minutes.
Landscapes and backgrounds can be changed freely and reproduced as often as necessary. Automotive advertisers can place several brands and models in the same advertisement without the high transport costs of bringing vehicles to a physical location.
“Bunkspeed software is a decisive element in this transformation because the application lets us prepare very high-quality imagery in a very short time and at a fraction of the previous cost,” says John M. Borowski, head of Chrysler’s EGIG Group.
He adds that the short learning time makes the investment pay off quickly: “The intuitive user interface allowed our graphic designers to become proficient with the software in a short period, so we began realizing savings immediately.”
Michael Check, president of Bunkspeed’s automotive and transportation division, says: “We are delighted to help Chrysler extract further value from its already valuable CAD data. This sale illustrates how Bunkspeed’s rendering applications can use existing in-house data to promote collaboration among marketing, engineering, and design departments.”
