Like the RED Epic 5K camera, the RED Scarlet 3K camera is scheduled for release in spring 2009. At its heart is a 2/3-inch Mysterium X sensor. Other announced features include:

- Recording up to 100 MB/s to dual CompactFlash cards in RED’s proprietary REDCODE RAW or RGB
- 4.8-inch LCD display
