The era of the bold Captain Archer, played by Scott Bakula, was 113 years before Captain Kirk, Spock and Scotty. Together with his interplanetary crew, he boards the legendary starship Enterprise for the first time to begin its earliest missions. No one yet knows how to handle warp drive properly, transporting gives people goosebumps and is used only for cargo, and replicators and holodecks do not yet exist.
The fifth and so far final series in the Star Trek universe is entering a new round: Paramount Home Entertainment will reissue the first season in two attractive half-season box sets on 8 May, aimed at collectors and newcomers. As usual, the remaining seasons will then appear at monthly intervals. The release of season four in August will complete the series about Enterprise’s maiden voyage and beginnings.
“Star Trek: Enterprise” won four Emmy Awards and received ten further nominations. Around 60 minutes of bonus material on season one provide additional entertainment, including features such as “Inside Shuttlepod One” and “Creating Enterprise.”
The First Ventures into Space
“It’s worth every light-year,” Elizabeth Cutler remarks while exploring a new planet in the episode “Strange New World.” When a Klingon pilot pursued by mysterious aliens crashes on Earth, Jonathan Archer’s moment arrives. As captain, he launches his first mission into space. But the short assignment to return an alien to his people becomes a much longer journey.
Captain Archer is assigned the Vulcan T’Pol, played by Jolene Blalock, as his first officer and supervisor. The two do not become a well-coordinated team from the first day, but they defend themselves courageously against attacks by combative Klingons, mysterious epidemics and other cosmic hazards. That is just as well, because the exploration of space and contact with alien civilizations have only just begun.
