Autodesk has acquired the assets of REALVIZ, a developer of software for image-based content. REALVIZ technology generates 3D content and visual effects from photographic imaging and 2D environments, including panoramic photography, image-based modelling, match moving and optical motion capture.
Its products include Stitcher for panoramas and virtual 360-degree tours and ImageModeler for creating 3D models from photographs. REALVIZ technology had been used by customers including Boeing, NASA, Cinesite, Framestore CFC, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Warner Bros. Animation, Electronic Arts and Activision, and on films such as Zodiac, The Host, Children of Men, Superman Returns and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Autodesk planned to continue developing Stitcher Unlimited, Stitcher Express, ImageModeler and Movimento as standalone products. MatchMover, Retimer and VTour would no longer be offered separately, with their core technology intended for integration into future Autodesk products.
