NVIDIA is now offering its hardware renderer Gelato free of charge. Gelato Pro 2.2 is available for download from the NVIDIA website. The free version replaces Gelato Basic, which was previously available directly from NVIDIA. Originally designed as a final-frame renderer for visual effects and animation in film and broadcast, Gelato can be used with 3D applications that have high rendering requirements, including game design, CAD, industrial design and architecture.
“Gelato Pro 2.2 is an extremely powerful GPU-accelerated rendering application, and we are delighted that we can now support the creative community with it free of charge,” explains Dominick Spina, Senior Product Manager in NVIDIA’s Digital Film Group. “Every artist and designer using an NVIDIA Quadro graphics card can now expand their pipeline without licensing fees.”
According to the manufacturer, Gelato Pro 2.2 will be the final version of the software. In the future, the Gelato and mental images development teams will focus on advancing mental ray and increasing its rendering speed.
