NVIDIA Gelato Pro 2.2 rendering software is now available as a free download. Gelato Pro 2.2 is particularly suitable for rendering digital 3D content.
Gelato Pro 2.2 replaces the basic version of Gelato and is also the final version of the rendering software. In the future, NVIDIA’s Gelato team will work with mental images, the rendering company acquired by NVIDIA, to focus on developing mental ray software and strengthen its commitment to faster rendering.
Gelato is a GPU-accelerated final-frame renderer for producing high-quality computer-generated images with NVIDIA Quadro graphics cards. Gelato was originally developed for rendering visual effects and animation for film and television. The software can also be used with applications that require professional rendering, including game development, CAD, industrial design, and architecture.
Gelato’s features include sub-pixel antialiasing, true displacement, motion blur, depth of field, NURBS support, subdivision surfaces, and ray tracing including global-illumination effects and ambient occlusion. The Amaretto plug-in from Frantic Films also enables rendering with Autodesk 3ds Max software, complementing the Mango plug-in for rendering with Autodesk Maya.
The features of Gelato Pro 2.2, previously available only under license, include the interactive Sorbetto relighting engine, parallel rendering over a network, multithreading, 64-bit support, and DSO shadeops. Gelato Pro also supports Joe Alter’s Shave software and software for computer-generated hair and fur effects. Support for Autodesk Maya 8.5 and 3ds Max 9.0 gives Gelato Pro 2.2 better stereo rendering, improved fog lights, and significantly higher performance.
NVIDIA Gelato Pro 2.2 supports Windows XP and Linux and runs on all NVIDIA Quadro graphics solutions. Gelato Pro 2.2 is now available as a free download from the website. Because Gelato Pro 2.2 is a free download product, NVIDIA is ending all development and support for Gelato.
