From 4 to 9 November, the International Short Film Festival Berlin will present a selection of current short-film productions from around the world for the 24th time. From more than 3,500 entries originating in over 90 countries, the festival will screen 500 short fiction, documentary, children’s, animated and experimental films, as well as music videos and commercials. Alongside eight competition sections and numerous special programmes, cult festival events and stimulating professional discussions, this year’s interfilm Short Film Festival offers much that is new to discover.
The programme begins with KUKI, the first International Short Film Festival for Children and Youth Berlin, which starts on 2 November with a large opening celebration and the premiere of the children’s short film produced as part of the Children Make Short Films project. Over eight days, KUKI invites audiences to watch competition films, special programmes and dedicated foreign-language programmes in English and Spanish.
In its country programmes, the 24th International Short Film Festival Berlin focuses on the impressive short-film scenes of Mexico and the Spanish Basque Country, which are currently enjoying success on the screens of international film festivals.
Under the title Capture Motion!, the festival devotes four programmes to short films centred on performance, dance and choreography. New York artist and Improv Everywhere founder Charlie Todd will present his publicly staged missions both on screen and live in Berlin. A retrospective is dedicated to dancer and filmmaker Miranda Pennell, who will personally introduce her multiple award-winning choreographed films.
This year also sees the launch of forward—international viral video award, the first competition for short films from the internet.
