American broadcaster group New Vision Television has installed Quantel’s fully server-based, HD-capable Newsbox system at four local stations: CBS affiliate KOIN in Portland; ABC studio WJCL in Savannah, Georgia; NBC station KSNW in Wichita, Kansas; and NBC station KSNT in Topeka, also in Kansas.
New Vision Television has continuously expanded its network and now owns or operates 17 stations across the continent, from Portland, Oregon, through Birmingham, Alabama, to Honolulu, Hawaii. Its portfolio includes five CBS, two ABC, four Fox, two NBC, two CW and two MyNetwork stations.
The evaluation took around 18 months, testing all available broadcast solutions on the market before New Vision chose Quantel’s Newsbox. “We worked for a long time to meet all of New Vision’s requirements, which varied considerably from station to station,” explained David Black, Quantel Regional Sales Manager. “Our system solutions significantly optimized the workflow, resulting in a much faster time to air in news production.”
More profitable broadcast operations were decisive in New Vision’s choice. “We were not interested only in short-term improvements with reliable, cost-effective newsroom systems,” explained Lynn Rowe, technical consultant at New Vision. “We want to use fully automated, server-based broadcast technology that guarantees unlimited multicasting for all distribution formats, including broadcast, internet and mobile, and also provides a networked, integrated archive solution.” Rowe identified key benefits of Quantel’s Newsbox system:
