“Can the video- and audio-track monitors be switched on and off using the keyboard? How can I quickly view individual fields in a video without an extra button? How do all those little Avid insider tips involving Ctrl or Command, Alt and Shift work? Couldn’t you put together a list of the truly practical shortcuts and special functions that people constantly need but quickly forget?” Editor, director and Avid trainer Kerstin Sprenger has often been asked these questions during her seminars. She has now published more than 30 practical shortcuts and special functions for experienced Avid editors, clearly arranged on a mousepad as a kind of cheat sheet. Naturally, it includes the answers to the questions above.

The mousepad collects many little-known, field-tested tips from an experienced editor covering work in the timeline and Composer, editing, effects, audio, navigation and playback, segment editing, trimming and color correction. Because these are fundamental functions, the shortcuts work across Avid Media Composer, Avid Xpress and Avid Symphony and in all commonly used program versions, not only the newest ones. The Advanced Shortcuts mousepad is available in PC and Mac versions from http://www.kerstinsprenger.de. It marks the beginning of a publication series, with further mousepads and books on Avid topics such as effects, color correction and plug-ins planned.
