At the Red Stick International Animation Festival in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, described as the largest animation festival in the United States, the pirates captured another prize. Red Star Studio received the Animation for Young Audiences Award. The film was originally created for Drayton Manor Theme Park in Staffordshire, where visitors were reportedly queuing outside the cinema. Munich 3D company Virtual Experience handled distribution of The Curse of Skull Rock, bringing the award-winning family entertainment to German audiences.
