Almost 300 more visitors attended, including numerous representatives of various broadcasters who had time for individual project consultations with members of the Sony Professional Solutions team. Sony concluded sales worth €650,000, once again demonstrating the success of the Sony Professional World concept.
Alongside personal discussions, several European and German premieres of broadcast products attracted considerable visitor interest. In cameras, Sony presented the PDW-F800. Among other features, the camcorder offers a native 23.98p frame rate in 1080 mode, standard multiformat recording, and a Quick and Slow function for overcranking and undercranking. Steffen Hacker, an advertising filmmaker at post-production house unexpected GmbH and a Sony Professional World visitor, was enthusiastic about the new camera: “The PDW-F800 has been enhanced with numerous high-end functions, making it perfect for dramatic shooting. Positioned above the PDW-700, it is an excellent addition to the XDCAM HD422 range.”
The HSC-300 was introduced as a new studio camera. It features three 2/3-inch Power HAD FX CCDs with 2.2 million pixels, supports multiformat operation at 1080i/50 and 720p/50, and provides digital triax transmission over distances of up to 1.3 kilometres. Its broad capabilities cover the mid-range segment of Full HD system cameras.
Sony presented the MVS-6000 and BRS-200 in its switcher portfolio. The MVS-6000 expands the popular MVS series, can be extended to as many as 49 inputs and is available in configurations of up to 2.5 M/E. It combines numerous features of the existing MVS-8000G in a more compact design. The new BRS-200 multiformat switcher is particularly suitable for compact live productions, offering simple operation and flexible deployment. Its multiview function displays all input signals on a single monitor, while pan-and-tilt cameras can be controlled directly from the switcher.
Two new monitor products were also shown in Germany for the first time: the LMD-1530W and LMD-940W. With the new LMD-1530W, Sony offers a space-saving alternative to the familiar 20-inch LMD-2030W. It can be installed in 19-inch racks and has an HDMI interface, making it suitable for professional use like its larger siblings. The compact LMD-940W can run on battery or 12-volt power and is therefore especially suitable for mobile use and outside production. The nine-inch display features a 3G interface and a resolution of 800 × 480 pixels, together with all the LMD series features, including ChromaTRU and 10-bit processing, already known for outstanding image quality. These two releases further expand Sony’s successful LMD range.
“A total of 1,300 visitors learned about our product worlds at the four Sony Professional World events this year,” says Oliver A. Helfrich, Product Marketing Manager Broadcast & Healthcare at Sony Professional Solutions Europe. “Our customers’ enthusiasm shows that they want this kind of personal communication and product presentation. Events like these will therefore continue to play an important role for us.”
