Pixologic, manufacturer of the ZBrush sculpting and modelling tool, has announced a new feature that simplifies data exchange with Luxology’s modo 3D package by making it easier to transfer mesh geometry data.
The feature, called “GoZ,” automatically transfers mesh geometry and normal, displacement and texture maps to modo and back to ZBrush. This significantly improves the workflow of artists who use both applications at different stages of the creative process. A model such as a human head can be designed as basic anatomy in modo. It can then be transferred immediately to ZBrush via GoZ, where brush tools can add details such as wrinkles, skin blemishes, scars and similar features. The enhanced model can then be transferred back to modo to create the rendered output files.
“GoZ for modo opens up new possibilities for artists and designers and maximises their workflow,” explains Luxology President Brad Peebler, promising significant time savings and greater efficiency. According to Pixologic COO Jaime Labelle, GoZ for modo directly reflects user suggestions expressing a desire for improved cooperation between the two programs.
While GoZ is already available as a feature of ZBrush 3.2 for Mac OS X, PC users still have to wait for version 4. According to the official account, it is due to ship from autumn. On a website, however, Pixologic promises people interested in GoZ that a free PC update would be offered soon and that ZBrush 4 would already be available from August.
ZBrush is offered for $595 in the United States and costs around €570 including VAT in Germany. Pixologic has compiled more detailed information on a GoZ webpage (see link below).
