At IBC 2009, Sonnet Technologies is once again expanding its line-up of professional storage solutions for the media industry substantially. With Fusion RX1600Fibre, the Californian manufacturer presents its first Fibre Channel multi-user storage solution. The Sonnet Qio eSATA card reader is unique: the robust card reader reads almost all memory-card formats, including SxS and P2, and permits transfer speeds of up to 250 MB/sec. Sonnet is also presenting new RAID enclosures with an integrated RAID controller and quad interface for the highest data security and speed with maximum interface flexibility.

Brief Introduction to the New Products:

The new Fusion RX1600Fibre is Sonnet’s first multi-user storage solution. Significantly faster than conventional interfaces such as eSATA or FireWire, the enclosure with 16 hard drives offers read bandwidth of up to 1030 MB/sec. This high bandwidth pays off especially when multiple clients access it. Numerous RAID modes, hot-swap functionality, S.M.A.R.T. support and a replaceable power supply make operation reliable. Four integrated 8GB Fibre interfaces allow smaller workgroups to operate without an additional Fibre Channel switch.

For customers wishing to switch to Fibre Channel storage solutions, Sonnet is offering professional Fibre Channel training every day at IBC. Expert tips are available on every day of the fair at 2 p.m. directly at Sonnet stand 7.G01.

Sonnet Qio is the new card reader for professional formats such as SxS and P2 memory cards. The eSATA host controller integrated into the reader enables read speeds of up to 250 MB/sec. Data transfer is made particularly easy by the option to connect storage drives directly to Qio. Control and data transfer to the computer can take place through either a PCIe or ExpressCard adapter card. Other supported memory-card formats are CompactFlash and SD HC. The supplied adapter allows numerous other card types to be read.

The new Fusion D400QR5 and R400Q5 RAID5 arrays provide maximum speed, high data security and flexibility in interface selection. Available as desktop or rackmount variants, the enclosures, each with four hard drives, offer an integrated RAID controller that also supports fast and secure RAID5 mode. Data-transfer rates of up to 225 MB/sec read and 175 MB/sec write are possible through the eSATA interface. In addition to RAID5, the enclosures can also operate in RAID0, RAID1 and JBOD modes. Users who only want to switch to eSATA later benefit from the four interfaces: eSATA, FireWire 400 and 800, and USB.

Sonnet will announce further details of the IBC products in time for the start of the fair.
