Filming of the FFF-funded drama Nanga Parbat, accompanied by Reinhold Messner, took place between August 2008 and June 2009, partly at original locations in Pakistan. The shoot in the Himalayas was demanding: at an altitude of 6,800 metres, the team filmed with the help of a 65-millimetre ARRI camera.
However, Joseph Vilsmaier and Perathon Film also filmed in the Alps and Bavaria: at Großvenediger in East Tyrol and in Sulden, as well as at several locations in Munich, including Marienplatz, Kühlaus in the slaughterhouse district, Bavaria-Ring and Neubiberg.
Nanga Parbat is a Bavarian project: from development and preparation through large parts of the filming to post-production, everything took place or will still take place in Bayen. The Bavaria effect is nearly 1,169%. The film is currently being post-produced at the Bavaria site in the south of Munich: dubbing, Foley and sound effects are running at full speed.
Joseph Vilsmaier: “Even for a film set in the Himalayas, Munich was once again the ideal film location for me. I have everything I need for a film production here, particularly through the two companies ARRI and Bavaria.”
FFF Managing Director Prof. Dr. Klaus Schaefer after approving the rough cut: “A monumental film is being created here, using the power of great images to tell this mountaineering drama in a gripping and comprehensible way.”
Nanga Parbat, starring Florian Stetter and Andreas Tobias, will open in cinemas through Senator Filmverleih on January 14, 2010.
