Electronic Arts will publish 38 Studios’ first video game, an epic single-player role-playing game with the working title “Project Mercury”. 38 Studios is the company of baseball World Series MVP (Most Valuable Player) and passionate video gamer Curt Schilling. Project Mercury is being developed by Big Huge Games, a wholly owned subsidiary of 38 Studios. It is led by Ken Rolston, former lead designer of the critically acclaimed hits Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. With this game, the studio enters the vast universe of New York Times bestselling fantasy author R. A. Salvatore for the first time. Artistic direction is by Todd McFarlane, renowned artist and creator of Spawn.
“From day one, 38 Studios has focused on creating the next generation of entertainment experiences spanning all media, including film, television, comics, novels, toys and, of course, video games,” said Curt Schilling, founder and chairman of 38 Studios. “We are creating a huge world of heroes and villains, with a powerful backstory at its core, conceived by the brilliant minds of R. A., Todd and Ken. I cannot imagine a better partner than EA Partners, because we can use EA’s strength to our advantage in bringing our first product to market. For 38 Studios, it is a dream come true.”
“We are thrilled to be working with 38 Studios. The world of role-playing games is so powerful, and it represents a perfect addition to our partners and EAP title portfolio,” said David DeMartini, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Partners. “Project Mercury is bursting with first-class talent and passion throughout the board, from Curt through R. A. to Todd and Ken. We look forward to working with them to create a fantastic game in this incredible new world.”
Project Mercury will be available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. More information about 38 Studios is available at
