Motionlink, a traditional authoring house in Sydney, Australia, is adding DCI mastering to its service portfolio. CLIPSTER provides the foundation: the DVS DI workstation noticeably increases workflow efficiency at Motionlink.
Hanover. At the beginning of 2010, Australian authoring house Motionlink expanded into the DCI market, adding distribution of Digital Cinema Packages (DCPs) for theatrical films to its service portfolio. The challenges of DCP packaging primarily concerned workflow speed and performance. As a smaller company, Motionlink had to consider the cost of the system change alongside its complexity, with no room for errors or downtime. DVS’s CLIPSTER met the Australians’ requirements precisely, enabling Motionlink to implement efficient DCI workflows.
Australian DVS reseller Digistor installed the CLIPSTER DI workstation at Motionlink in Sydney in January 2010. On the way to the finished DCP provided to cinemas for digital projection, CLIPSTER performs every step – steps normally handled by several systems. This allows Motionlink to offer customers an additional service and generate new revenue.
A convenient tool for Motionlink is CLIPSTER’s DCI Wizard, which guides the user through every stage of DCI mastering. In addition to expanding its product range and service portfolio, Motionlink benefits from an even more secure workflow: CLIPSTER generates DCPs at maximum speed, performs reliable quality checks throughout the process and thereby opens up a new business area for the company.

Whether conforming, editing, colour correction or versioning, CLIPSTER handles all resolutions up to uncompressed 4K material in real time. Every DCI step from DSM (Digital Source Master) to DCP (Digital Cinema Package) is performed in a single system, eliminating time-consuming transfer processes across multiple components. The entire process is extremely transparent and time-saving, since DSM and JPEG2000 material with audio can be played back in real time. The option to review finished DCPs directly in CLIPSTER helps Motionlink’s editors perform rapid and simple quality control.
