The small island of Berk was a popular destination for German and American cinemagoers this weekend, as it is the setting for the animated adventure HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, which immediately took number one in the box-office charts in both countries.
According to the distributor, the fiery Viking spectacle from DreamWorks Animation Studios opened in 664 cinemas in Germany, including 311 cinemas showing the 3D version. Of approximately 250,000 visitors in total, the film generated 78 percent of its total box office from 3D tickets. This corresponds to around 175,000 visitors.
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON also topped the cinema charts in the USA, opening with takings of US$43.3 million, approximately 65 percent of which was generated by 3D screens, Paramount Pictures added.
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON is the latest computer-animated film highlight from DreamWorks Animation. Following the various settings of major box-office hits such as SHREK, MADAGASCAR and KUNG FU PANDA, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON transports audiences this time to a fascinating Viking island where fighting cunning dragons is part of everyday life.
