Jim Richardson, NaturalPoint co-founder and chief technician for the OptiTrack motion-capture series, told us that OptiTrack’s low prices result from continuous optimisation during the design and planning phase and from building every part of the camera in-house. The key specifications certainly sound good – the S250e has a global shutter and reaches 250 frames per second at a resolution of 832 x 832 pixels. Ninety-six cameras can be controlled over Ethernet – and this network cable also supplies the necessary power, keeping cable clutter under control. The captured images can be compressed in various ways and formats, reducing the load on the motion-tracking software.
