Translation Services for Animation Data

When a project has been completed in your favourite package and the customer asks for a version for another package, good advice is expensive – especially if you do not own that package. But a new web service called Babel3D translates files into different formats – free of charge and without installing software.

Archive notice: This article was originally published on October 7, 2010. Links and embedded videos are preserved as part of the historical record.

The available formats are 3DS (3ds Max), DXF and DWG (AutoCAD and many other packages), 3DM (Rhino), SKP (Google SketchUp), IGS, STEP, OBJ (Wavefront) and XAML 3D (Microsoft).

These are uploaded to the server via a web interface, and the server takes care of the conversion. As soon as it is finished, the user is notified by email with a download link where the file is available for one day.
