Who needs a workstation these days?

At FMX 2O18, The Foundry launched Athera.io, a connection between The Foundry’s tools (among others, like Houdini, Blender, and many more to come), Google Cloud Services and artists. Via a browser – and really, any browser and machine will do – users can get virtual workstations and rendering performance. Trimble Buys SketchUp

On April 26, Trimble announced that it would buy SketchUp from Google. The purchase was expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2012. According to Google's SketchUp blog, the program would continue to be available in a free version, and Trimble announced that both companies would continue the online archive for 3D objects.

Web Video Format Wars Ended for Now

Google has announced that it will dispense with H.264 in browsers and operating systems in future and rely on the open WebM format. This could deal the death blow to proprietary codecs for mobile devices, and Adobe will be pleased.

In the multibillion-dollar takeover battle for Internet corporation Yahoo!, software giant Microsoft's ultimatum for an amicable agreement expired yesterday evening. Microsoft is threatening a hostile takeover if no purchase agreement is reached with Yahoo!'s management. However, the software corporation recently also did not rule out withdrawing its offer altogether. What happens after the deadline is therefore unclear.

Rumour: Google Phone planned with Dell

Google is planning to launch a mobile phone in cooperation with Dell - the British magazine MarketingWeek voiced this supposition yesterday, Wednesday. According to unnamed industry sources, corresponding plans are to be announced at the GSM Mobile World Congress http://www.mobileworldcongress.com taking place in Barcelona in February.
