The cloud-based Revolver management tool is intended to organize the workflow of a VFX team better and make collaborative work easier. Several player types were implemented to realize this. VFX studios are intended to be able to review material from any location at any time, add comments to it directly, or perform further evaluations in real time together with other experts. Through a special Revolver web player, all team users are also intended to receive access to the available projects at any time via a browser or mobile devices. Tweak Software provided a native RV player to display centrally stored high-quality frames in real time, either on the user’s own desktop or in screening rooms.
Alongside retrieving frame sequences/shots, users can also browse iterations of individual sequences/frame sequences. The process resembles a subversion system, except that users do not have to move forward or backward to a revision; instead, they are arranged in a hierarchy led by the latest revision.
According to Shotgun Software, an Alembic player is also intended to be present, making it possible to display raw data in addition to rendered frames. An animation sequence can thus be evaluated directly in Maya, for example, before rendering takes place.
