Avid released the eleventh version of the finishing software and added a full version of Media Composer 6 on top. Full support for Media Composer as well as Symphony and the ability to use AJA Kona 3 video cards in particular are just some of the new features of DS11. According to Avid, third-party hardware is also intended to be supported. This also includes components that run under Media Composer and Symphony.

Furthermore, users are intended to be able to carry out complex audio mixes by means of 16 embedded SDI audio channels. Via the RED SDK, filmmakers can import their material, which was previously recorded by a RED Epic or Scarlet, directly into the DS11 software. Open EXR projects, on the other hand, receive support for HDR image material. A decidedly major plus on the feature list is the Avid DNxHD 444 codec. Media in master quality can thus be edited in real time. The features show that Avid is taking the race to catch up seriously and wants to stand up to software competitors.

Everything Has Its Price

In addition to the actual purchase price of 8,299 euros plus VAT, there is also the option to purchase an upgrade for 4,199 euros plus VAT. Both prices include only the software. For an additional charge, however, users are intended to be able to purchase a package consisting of software and hardware. The HP Z800 workstation is recommended to users.
