Because the interface resembles traditional 3D tools, according to Exocortex, Clara.io is intended to be immediately familiar to artists. The tool is based on JavaSkript, HTML5 and WebGL, so artists can access their work and the tool from anywhere without requiring configuration.

The creation history is also stored, 3D scenes can be shared, and users can collaborate on them in real time. Access to unlimited cloud computing on demand is also intended to be available.

Features presented for the beta version include a hierarchical scene graph, lights and cameras, robust support for polymeshes including UV, normal and colour maps, as well as a renderer and pass management.
