The plug-in for Autodesk Maya works entirely with geometry instead of elaborate fluid or gas simulations. The Elementacular Cloud Shader makes it possible to convert geometry into clouds. The plug-in’s GPU-based fractal generator can be controlled by users, allowing results to be optimised quickly without having to set new parameters. The cloud shape can be determined by editing the underlying geometry.

According to developer Alexandra Institute, the clouds can be rendered in high quality in real time directly in the viewport, while physically based multiple scattering of light is also supported.

Version 1.2 adds a large selection of demo scenes, a complete 32-bit HDR pipeline, an improved noise generator and a new plug-in development with which updates can be installed more easily.

Elementacular runs on Windows and is compatible with Autodesk Maya from version 2013. A graphics card with OpenGL 4.4 is also required.

Here Alexandra Institute offers a free trial version of the plug-in; a full version is available for 175 US dollars.
