Atmospheric effects such as fog or smoke can be created more easily in Maya 2016 with the upcoming “Adaptive Aero Solver”, which will be included in Bifrost.
Another useful feature in this area is “Adaptive Foam” in Bifrost, which allows users to add foam and bubbles to liquid simulations, giving all scenes in which water plays an important role more realism and detail, according to Autodeslk. The customizable camera enables artists to create high-resolution simulations in places where close-ups are needed while reducing the calculation in other areas of the foam particles – making it possible to achieve significantly shorter simulation times.
In addition, version 2016 makes guided simulations possible, allowing the behavior of effects to be controlled precisely. This is made possible by a cached simulation or an animated mesh object and by a low-resolution fluid that guides a high-resolution simulation on the fluid surface. This is useful for hero waves, for example.
The look-development workflow has also been improved, including a rebuild of the node-editing interface, new workflows for visualization and diagnosing complex shading graphs.
Many are also already looking forward to the new sculpting toolset, which is intended to bring brushes with feature volume and surface falloff, stamp images, sculpting UVs and support for vector displacement maps.
For playback and editing character rigs, Maya 2016 uses the CPU and GPU; together with the integrated Performance Profiler, this makes it easier to understand bottlenecks in a scene.
