The extended dynamic range when filming Log via AtomHDR, previously reserved only for the newer Flame models, is now also coming to the Shogun and Ninja Assassin 4K by applying the same processing as the AtomHDR of the Shogun and Ninja Flame recorders. HDR monitoring during Log recording is also supported for cameras from Sony, Canon, Arri, Panasonic, JVC and RED.
The two FullHD mini preview monitor and SSD/hard-drive recorder combinations have also been improved in the accuracy of their colour range and black resolution through AtomOS 6.6. AtomHDR has options for WFM Auto to set the HDR level of a scene’s maximum brightness automatically. In addition, the waveform monitor now displays a percentage scale based on the input Log mode. Slow motion is now possible during playback.
The public beta AtomOS V6.6 now also makes recording with CinemaDNG possible with various Sony cameras in the FS series:
- FS700 with 4K firmware update
- FS5 with the paid CBKZ-FS5RIF update and
- FS7 with the XDCA-FS7 extension
Recording with CDNG allows 12bit 444 video to be saved. The price for this, however, is files that consume a great deal more storage space compared with ProRes or DNxHD.
An update will also appear shortly for the Ninja and Samurai Blade recorders, adding AtomHDR and other functions.
