In this iteration of Substance Designer, artists find everything they need to prepare, author and modify digital materials – whether in game development, architecture, design or VFX. In addtion, HDR textures can now be created.

Further Features Include:

  • Text Node: This dynamic node displays 3ds Max parameters as .sbsar files, allowing artists to apply embossing, stamping and glow effects just as they would in Photoshop.
  • Curve Node: A new node allows the creation of complex curves, which helps to design complicated structures such as spirals or round windows
  • New Scan Processing Tools: Filters such as Crop, Smart Clone and Auto-Tile Ensure support material creation from 3D scans.
  • 16 f and 32 f Engine: The two new engines allow the range of colour and light values to be expanded with a floating value, so that HDR textures can be created.
  • 8K Bakers: With version 6, users can bake resolutions up to 32K by using square ratios or stop assets mid-bake.

As of today, Substance Designer 6 is available for Linux, Mac OS and Windows. Owners of Substance Live Indie ($19.90/month) and Substance Live Pro ($99.90//month), who can access the latest versions of the Substance tools and monthly content downloads, now receive Substance Designer 6. Users of Substance Designer 5 can upgrade to version 6 for $75. For new users: Indie licences are available for $149, Pro licences cost $590. Licences can be obtained via the Allegorithmic Website or an authorized retailer.
