Unwrella is a plug-in from 3d-io that simplifies the workflow with UVs in Autodesk Maya and 3ds Max. Anyone who has never worked with it and struggles daily with unwraps and poorly placed seams can view the plug-in’s feature overview here.
Unwrella 3.10 Update Features
The update added a “flatten unwrap” mode to flatten UVs more easily. Also new is a UV-tile process that makes it possible to control the number of UV tiles via parameters. Material IDs are automatically generated for each UV tile in the process. There were also performance and stability improvements. You can read the full update notes here.

Unwrella is compatible with 3ds Max and Maya from version 2010 upwards. A free trial version is also available; you can download the demo versions here. If the tool is useful to you, you can buy it here – the price is currently €149.
